The Muppets

I haven’t watched the new Muppet Show.  I’ve read enough about to it know I don’t want to watch it.  It’s not the Muppets of the seventies and that’s what I want.

I have a fantasy.  Sometime around mid-January the current ‘modern’ Muppet Show starts getting little interruptions where the screen turns to snow.  A ‘technical difficulties’ poster shows up occasionally.  Remember those?  I picture a boiler-like device with Minions crawling all over it with hammers and stethoscopes and arc welders.

So anyway the screen finally turns to snow and you hear socks and slaps and grunts and Miss Piggy’s karate chop.  The screen clears to a scene of Scooter in front of a computer with Kermit looking over his shoulder.  Kermit turns to the camera and says…

It turns out that ABC has had the real Muppets tied up in the basement while a gang of impostors has been doing the show.  The real Muppets have gotten loose and locked the impostors in the basement along with their guest star, Miley Cyrus.

Well I can dream, can’t I?  It’s a new world, isn’t it?  A world where nothing is allowed to remain innocent.

About Angus Lewis

My wife and I lived our whole lives in Arkansas until ten years ago. We moved to the Kansas City area in 2011 (a job change). That was the reason for the 'From a Far Country' title. Our children and grandchildren were in Arkansas. Six months ago we sold our house and bought one in Sherwood, Arkansas and my wife moved back down here. Two weeks ago I retired and moved back too. (I'm probably going to try to find something part time to keep me out of trouble.) So maybe the 'From a Far Country' title is not so much of a fit anymore. But I think I'll stick with it. I'm still not home. Not yet. The Bible says we are all strangers and pilgrims here. Our real home is with God and some day we'll be there. We'll be home.

  1. Something worth dreaming.
Why can’t they create their own stuff – why ruin what was great?
