Just Wondering

I saw a billboard this morning for a local casino.  It said something like ‘More New Slots’.  I’m ignorant about these things.  Are new slots better than old slots?  If so why?  And what’s this about ‘looser slots’?  Somehow I had the impression that the state gaming commission mandated a certain percentage of payoff for all casinos.  This advertizing sounds like just so much bull to me.

If I was a gambler I think I would have to do something more cerebral than plunking coins in a slot.  You know, something that would show off my superior intelligence.

My brain is tired.  I’m trying not to think.  I’m reading Reading Jesus: A Writer’s Encounter With the Gospels.  It has somewhat of a more liberal slant than my viewpoint but that’s alright.  I expected that.  It’s good to get a different slant once in a while.  And it does get me to thinking which is always a good thing.  I may post some of my thoughts later.  But right now my brain is tired.  I want to read something that doesn’t make me think so much.

About Angus Lewis

My wife and I lived our whole lives in Arkansas until ten years ago. We moved to the Kansas City area in 2011 (a job change). That was the reason for the 'From a Far Country' title. Our children and grandchildren were in Arkansas. Six months ago we sold our house and bought one in Sherwood, Arkansas and my wife moved back down here. Two weeks ago I retired and moved back too. (I'm probably going to try to find something part time to keep me out of trouble.) So maybe the 'From a Far Country' title is not so much of a fit anymore. But I think I'll stick with it. I'm still not home. Not yet. The Bible says we are all strangers and pilgrims here. Our real home is with God and some day we'll be there. We'll be home.
