A New Direction

This blog seems to have settled into something I didn’t intend.  I see a news article and think of some little meditation relating to it.  There’s nothing wrong with that.  It seems that no matter where I start I wind up some Christ related payoff at the end.  I can’t say I do that on purpose.  It just works out that way.  Sometimes I’m surprised where I wind up.  And there’s nothing wrong with any of that.

For years I’ve been writing little stories.  I’ve tried to write a novel or two but I just get bogged down.  Maybe there’s a trick to turning a short story into a novel that I don’t know about.  Maybe it’s just a matter of discipline that I don’t have.  Anyway 3,000 to 5,000 words seems to be all I can muster out of an idea.  I like to start with a ‘what’s wrong with this picture’ idea and see where it leads.  Like my news article posts these all seem to end up at the same place.  They all turn out to be strange little things that don’t fit any genre.  I’ve never figured out what to do with them.

So I’m going to start posting them.  For the most part I will have to post them in multiple episodes.  But that’s what I’m going to do.  I’m going to launch them into the vast ocean of ones and zeros that is the internet.  Who knows.  Maybe one of them will wash up on a digital beach somewhere and do somebody some good.

About Angus Lewis

My wife and I lived our whole lives in Arkansas until ten years ago. We moved to the Kansas City area in 2011 (a job change). That was the reason for the 'From a Far Country' title. Our children and grandchildren were in Arkansas. Six months ago we sold our house and bought one in Sherwood, Arkansas and my wife moved back down here. Two weeks ago I retired and moved back too. (I'm probably going to try to find something part time to keep me out of trouble.) So maybe the 'From a Far Country' title is not so much of a fit anymore. But I think I'll stick with it. I'm still not home. Not yet. The Bible says we are all strangers and pilgrims here. Our real home is with God and some day we'll be there. We'll be home.

Looking forward to reading them! As for: “It seems that no matter where I start I wind up some Christ related payoff at the end.”, for that I am grateful. Makes your blog worth reading, in my book. Can’t wait for the first story.

I’ve always been the same way, and I’ve debated whether or not I would post stories on my own blog. Maybe you’ll inspire me to go ahead and do it!
